The Reds look for the double-header sweep by defeating the Cubbies in the night cap of today’s double header. This Reds team has been on a tear of late and winning tonight’s ball game would continue that run and guarantee the Reds of gaining AT LEAST a half game in the standings on Milwaukee and the rest of the division.

David Holmberg makes his first start in a Reds uniform tonight. He’ll be flanked by Jay Bruce making his 2nd start at 1B. Tucker Barnhart returns behind the plate tonight. It should be a fun game to watch and discuss. Let’s hope the Reds are on the smiling end of the scoreboard when it’s over.

Discuss the game here, Reds fans! Go Reds!

  1. Josh Mohr

I agree with the lineup minus Heisey should be starting in RF. He went 3-3 and deserves to be rewarded for his game 1 performance. Plus we are facing another LHP

  2. Foxsport

Bruce at 1B again, that is just stupid. Schumaker can play 2B, but not 1B or 3B?

  3. vegastypo

I hope that being in the Home Run Derby doesn’t mess with Super Todd’s swing for the second half.

    • Steve Mancuso

Tarp still rolled up. Definitely feel the storm coming. But they must not think it will last long.

      • George Mirones

WCPO radar doesn’t show anything back to the Mississippi. Whatever you are feeling tale another shot of “Jack’ and it will all be good.

  4. Kurt Frost

So if they lose this one does the fire sale start again?

  5. Redgoggles

I would be happy with 5 IP, less than 4 runs given up. Bullpen is rested. No need to give this game away.

  6. mikemartz

7:45 p.m. Eastern time estimated start

    • Steve Mancuso

Sunny right now. Must expect it to change.

  7. Eric nyc

Todd in the HR Derby. First time I’ll tune into that since Griffey. Kind of intrigued after Don Long said he’s seen Todd launch long balls at will in batting practice all year.

  8. Steve Mancuso

While you’re waiting for the game to start perfect way to pass the time is to buy a new Redleg Nation t-shirt. 4 colors. No shipping or handling charge. $20.

    • Steve Mancuso

Anyone who buys during the game gets a personal mention in the comment section. I get email notices of each purchase.

    • ToddAlmighty

4 colors? I figured it’d be more of a “You can have it any color you want so long as it’s Red” sorta thing.

  9. Kurt Frost

I would love for Votto to choke Marty out during that commercial.

    • Foxsport

Anyone else over 35 remember growing up with the old Marty and the Ole lefthander. Its hard to explain to people how good they were based on where we are today.

  10. mikemartz

Is it just me or does Tucker Barnhart remind anyone else of Rube the catcher from Major league II? He just looks a little like him to me…….

  11. Chris

Bummer. Hamilton gets that walk and Frazier breaks it up with a DP.

  12. RedAlert

For crying out loud – just walk the freaking guy – he is killing ‘ the Reds !

  13. Chris

Split was expected. Split is approaching.

      • Vicferrari

4 + innings looking like a pipe dream, 2nd inning had the making of a disaster but got out of it, may be he settles down?

  14. jdx19

This feels like one of those games where Wada will end up impressing and the Reds’ AAA starter-of-the-day will give up 7ER in 3 1/2 innings.

      • Vicferrari

Redmond probably be the #3 guy out of the pen, any one know how he got away?

    • muttonlettucetomato

I hope not, but I think you may be right. We’ve seen this happen before when they bring up a guy to pitch a one off.

  15. mikemartz

good thing the bullpen is rested!

  16. Aaron Bradley

why not just pitch the whole game with the bullpen which is so well rested…? LaRussa would have done that. THis Holmberg guy is clearly not ready for prime time.

    • jdx19

Because, as much as I hate to say it, no one in the Reds system is anywhere close to the level of baseball intellect possessed by LaRussa. Bring in a AAA pitcher and concede the game. Pretty poor,

  17. mikemartz

I wonder if the “Nasty boys” are still in town?

  18. muttonlettucetomato

Could have been a lot worse. Still, I have a feeling that mop up duty is on the horizon for someone in the bullpen. Come to think of it, I wonder who is mop up in the Reds pen these days?

    • Foxsport

If they did not have a short bench you could PH this inning if Holberg comes up.

    • Vicferrari

Sad to say some many candidates, but pretty fortunate that the SP has been so good that no one has a chance to establish themselves

  19. ProspectCincy

Cincinnati ready for their first 2 run comeback this year?

Heh … see you tomorrow Reds fans.

    • jdx19

Where do you look up things like that?

      • ProspectCincy

I’ve been following each win. Can’t really “look it up” with checking each winning box-score.

Getting pretty comical now. Still not a single 4 run come from behind victory for 2+ years; and every MLB team has done that at least 3 times in the same span. (One team EIGHT times).

      • jdx19

        Gotcha.

And I’m assuming you heard the 2nd stat there on a telecast somewhere?

      • ProspectCincy

The second was read (last month). See if I can find it …

Looks like this one is out of hand.

  20. Ryan

So he gives up a two run dinger to a guy who only is performing against the Reds and gives up a double to who is in my opinion one of the worst baseball players in the league.

Yeah, he walked the pitcher, but got the next two outs with no damage. Let’s have hope.

    • jdx19

Also walked Olt, who makes Cozart look like Votto.

  21. Chris

This is a game where I wish Mesoraco could play first.

  22. Chris

Barnhart could have walked by now had he simply avoided swinging.

    • Foxsport

This is not the B linup, its the best one we have! If you disagree, take it up with Walt.

      • jdx19

Barnhart is horrendous. This is our B-lineup minus Santiago, who had started 3 previous straight games.

    • jdx19

Not to mention D pitchers. Get him out and stretch out Ondrusek and Hoover. Game over.

  23. Chris

We just don’t seem to be prepared with depth for even the obvious upcoming change-of-plans (ie a decent make-up double header pitcher needed).

    • Vicferrari

Cingrani got hurt, but there might have been other options

  24. RedAlert

Ballgame – seen enough of this batting practice pitcher – 3-0 deficit just as well be 10-0

  25. nyredfanatic

How many HR’s does Rizzo have against the Reds this year?

  26. charlottencredsfan

See if the kid can finish the inning and then give him the rest of the night off.

  27. Tae Yun

again who is our pitcher again? can i go pitch? i used to throw in HS

  28. ProspectCincy

A soft tossing left hander whose change-up is less than 10 MPH slower than his fastball.

Jeff Francis must have been this kid’s mentor in Louisville. Man do I hate the Cincinnati farm system.

  29. Foxsport

Pull the plug. I called 3 HR earlier, just not all the other walks and hits.

  30. vegastypo

Add this to the Rogue’s Gallery of Jeff Francis, Todd Redmond and Pedro Villarreal

  31. Tae Yun

i know it’s a DH, but given where we are in standings, can’t just give the game away… w/ this kid, we r doing just that. terrible batting practice pitcher

    • Vicferrari

An every time the other team does, the Reds cannot figure him out?

  32. charlottencredsfan

    MIL 5, PHL 1 – 1st inning. Not good.

  33. Vicferrari

Can Frazier bring this gut with him to the Homerun Derby?

      • Foxsport

Wang. The problem was he was not on the 40 man. No other options, but no excuse that we traded for this puffballer. Hanigan needed to be traded but a fruit bowel would have been better.

      • drew

I am guessing you dont know much about this kids history and you way overvalued Hannigan

      • charlottencredsfan

Starter by committee. When you have a 15-man bullpen, you should use it in games like this. Just can’t throw away games – happy I didn’t pay for a ticket.

  34. charlottencredsfan

Price isn’t much of a manager. Needs some minor league experience.

      • charlottencredsfan

I’ll let you figure it out on your own. Hint: Price saved 2-1/3 innings of bullpen use for this. I know Price impresses many here at RLN but unfortunately I’m not among them.

      • drew

I have figured it out…I know Price knows more about the game and pitching then anyone here and given the roster issues so far this season has done a very good job…

  35. Vicferrari

So who leads off the 3rd, Mike Leake? Do not want to run out of position players too early?

  36. Billy Joe in Chi-Town

It would help better make the case against the decision if the critics would identify their alternative choice for this start today.

  37. ProspectCincy

I think it’s pretty clear why Cingrani needs to stay a SP, and why he needs to be healthy long-term.

This team has absolutely nothing in the SP department in the minors (at the ready level for the next while). Unable to keep everything they have beyond next year; they’ll need to either acquire pitching in trades, or pray to God for divine intervention. Free Agency HA HA HA.

  38. I-71_Exile

We are just spoiled by our starters. This guy is a Reds ace circa 2004.

    • charlottencredsfan

      Hurts because it’s true.

  39. Aaron Bradley

LeCure should have pitched three, then turn it over to Hoover, Ondru, COntreras, etc. The bullpen was ridiculously rested and they had Cueto going in the early game… instead they think outside the box when it comes to playing Bruce at 1B… where is the creativity when there are no starting pitchers available?

    • Tae Yun

now.. read your post again.. i am sure you will realize you know the answer to your own question already. Price is our manager, need I say more? ok then…

  40. Kurt Frost

Walk outside for five minutes and it all goes to pot.

  41. RedsfanPa

Wow….Holmberg is as bad as advertised….easy pickens for Rizzo & friends….this is getting ugly fast.

    • ProspectCincy

Of greater than 1 run. GREATER THAN ONE (&@#*^@#* RUN!

  42. Kurt Frost

Fire Price! Start the fire sale!!!

  43. sergeant2

I know its ridiculous to think the Reds considered this second game of the doubleheader a throwaway or expendable as far as going all out for a win, but from the looks of things it sure looks like the Reds manager considers this a throwaway or expendable game. All the same: Go Reds! Plus its still early, the Reds could still very well win this game.

  44. ProspectCincy

We’ll see how Price manages the game now. I’d vote now for using a pinch hitter in this inning; but I think we all know he’s gonna sacrifice the out (even though he has a lot of bull-pen pitchers that haven’t thrown in a while).

    • ProspectCincy

Of course Contreras leads off. Ugh.

  45. charlottencredsfan

Hopefully the team can pull Price’s butt out of the fire and win this thing. We are playing the Cubs, after all.

    Go Reds!!!

      • charlottencredsfan

Contreras may have been a neat out-of-the-box pick to start. Looks he could at least give the Reds 1 more inning seeing that he pitches about once a week.

  46. ToddAlmighty

5,000 relief pitchers in the bullpen and you leave your AAA pitcher in there to get pummeled against the Cubs. Of course.

    • Tae Yun

it is expected… nothing surprises me about Reds re: any strategic decisions… there ain’t any. i am glad we pay them the big bucks – the GM and manager for their moves or lack of..

  47. AARON D

The Reds always seem to struggle against “nobodies” when it comes to starting pitchers. Throw an Ace and we’ll win, throw a AAA guy, and we’ll struggle to get 4 hits.

    • RedsfanPa

Was just going to say the same, we struggle so badly against these no name pitchers…. it is puzzling for sure…..

  48. George Mirones

Contreras needs to show his stuff here if he can get 2 solid innings it may make an extra bullpen arm expendable. Let’s see what the kid can do.

    • ToddAlmighty

Calling it now.. Barnhart goes back to AAA tomorrow, and they bring up another relief pitcher. NINE man bullpen! Mwu hahaha

  49. drew

I am continually amazed by some here…how do you enjoy watching the Reds cause all they do is complain and think they could do better. Its just one game we had limited options on whom could start and no using the bullpen like some have suggested is not an option.

    • vegastypo

I think the frustration, at least for me, is that this is the third year in a row where we haven’t had a serviceable guy in the minors to come up for one game and keep us in the game. Once or twice, OK, but the fourth straight time?

    • tom

They have 13 pitchers on there roster, do you recall when teams had 10 ? BY the way they still played double headers when they had 10 pitchers

    • Vicferrari

Because the best part of being a fan is when somebody gets fired, the second best part is when someone gets traded, preferably for a younger player with potential (who by the way rarely pans out)

  50. tom

If Price made the decision to start this kid he does not deserve to be a major league manager, this is the 2nd or 3rd time this year he’s started a minor leaguer in a double header

    • Ryan

Dude, you don’t bring up your best prospect who isn’t on the 40 man roster to pitch a game. It was also his day up. The other choice, Wang wouldn’t have done much better.

      • tom

So you give away a game to the worst team in your division? 13 pitchers on the staff before he was brought up is that not enough? Again this has cost them 2 or 3 other games already this year.

    • drew

Do you have any understanding of how rosters are structured and the 40 man roster.

      • Vicferrari

Don’t think so, just agree with him and the others. Yay, Fire Price that will fix this roster mess!

  51. Tae Yun

Cards 2 to 0 on Pirates
Brews losing 6-5 to Phillies (2nd inning only)

i enjoy reporting these scores more than the Reds game tonight.

  52. Michael J Hampton

Defensively, this team is just amazing to watch (even when they are losing, they still turn in some defensive gems).

  53. sergeant2

Since I know zero about Holmberg I’m not going criticize his outing today, because he wouldn’t be the first pitcher to look like he was in over his head in his major league debut. (I’m assuming it was his major league debut.)

    • drew

Actually its his second start…first for the Reds.

    • Vicferrari

I commented before Redmond would easily be the 3rd guy out of the bullpen and I am sure he got the same comments 2 years ago. Anyone know how he got away?

  54. Tae Yun

for me, it’s losing against SD 3 games; tonight’s game w/ a pitcher who prob shouldn’t be pitching in MLl and host of games that Price mismanaged or our BP blew up…of course these stuff happen over 162 games but we have had more than enough already this year.

don’t miss Dusty but I sure wouldn’t miss Price either

  55. George Mirones

Not a stellar inning but no runs. Outfield defense still catching and throwing the ball very well.

  56. sergeant2

O.K. Redlegs, time to shake yourselves out of the doldrums and get it in gear. Sound the bugle. Charge!!!! Go Reds!

    • vegastypo

The Dodgers had a 5-0 lead very early in Detroit. It’s now 11-5 Tigers. Not that I’m jealous or anything ….

  57. Steve Mancuso

Jerry Chesney bought a shirt! Thanks Sarge.

    • sergeant2

Thank you Steve for giving RN fans the opportunity to buy an awesome Redleg Nation tee, and at the same time help support the Redleg Nation website. Can’t imagine what following the Reds would be like if there were no Redleg Nation. Go Reds, Go Redleg Nation.

  58. PETEROSE_HOF_NOW

wada’s AAA skills and .mastery of Reds reminds me of Dice-K’s dominance in a big game late last year…..puzzling and frustrating to give this game away

  59. ToddAlmighty

Is it bad that I am not even surprised when a 33-year-old making his MLB debut is shutting the Reds out through 4? Like I almost expect schmoes to dominate the Reds.

  60. Billy Joe in Chi-Town

Ludwick seemed to give away that at bat last inning. It appeared that none of the pitches he swung at from the left hander were in the strike zone. Extremely disappointing for a veteran hitter to do that.

    • PETEROSE_HOF_NOW

in other words, a quite typical Luddy AB……thanks, Walt

      • Mutaman

Yeah we should have traded Leake for an outfielder. That way we could watch Holmberg pitch every four days.

  61. charlottencredsfan

Would letting Contreras start this game been a bad thing, backed up by a 12-man bullpen??

    • ohiojimw

I’ve been thinking since Contreras came that from the start of the game until he exited would in all likelihood comprise innings pitched by two guys who won’t even be on the 25 man active roster this time tomorrow. Is that a way to run a railroad when you need to make up ground and have almost endless pen?

  62. charlottencredsfan

Third time through the Cubs lineup, we should be able to do some business.

    Go Reds!!

    • ohiojimw

Be fine if those two end up swapping losses on Monday and Tuesday. It would be nice if the Pfillies could out slug the Brewers so at worst the Reds gain half a game on the lead for the day….

  63. charlottencredsfan

Time to make hay! Very good AB by Zack.

  64. Billy Joe in Chi-Town

Whatever it may lead to, or not, that was an impressive AB by Cozart.

  65. sergeant2

Good to hear Bob Trumpy was elected into the Football HOF broadcast wing. Congrats Trump.

  66. charlottencredsfan

OK Chris & Billy, don’t need HRs, just keep the line moving. Be smart!

    • PETEROSE_HOF_NOW

This Reds fan in Raleigh, NC will trust your enthusiasm

      • charlottencredsfan

Hopefully BHam will make something happen.

  67. charlottencredsfan

CH just melts in leverage situations.

  68. Steve Mancuso

    Noah Hanback bought a shirt!

  69. charlottencredsfan

There’s 1. Todd pick these guys up.

      • PETEROSE_HOF_NOW

Indeed, maybe Billy Hatcher needs to go…he’s the other common thread in all this baserunning BS

  70. ToddAlmighty

At least they’re not getting shut out by random schmoe anymore.

  71. Jake

I must’ve missed something, this looks like the same Reds team I saw in May

  72. charlottencredsfan

Terrible way to foul up a golden opportunity. Still think we’ll get a couple more though.

  73. BigRedSaguaro

Reds gonna Cub,as well I guess

    • PETEROSE_HOF_NOW

reminded of Kissinger’s comment…”wish they could both lose”

  74. RedAlert

If I have said it once I’ve said it a 1000 times > Reds are the absolute worst baserunning team in MLB

  75. Tae Yun

Lost opportunity. needed at least 2-3 runs there… against a young pitcher debuting in MLB… crap at bat by Heisy and Hamilton..even worse by minor league catcher

      • Kurt Frost

It’s sad but that’s young to me now.

      • Tae Yun

me too. 33 is a baby … not to mention he’s debuting in MLB.. so he’s young

      • Billy Joe in Chi-Town

Was Billy’s at bat “crap”? Didn’t see it, but GameDay said he lined out to the CF who then botched the throw drawn from the tag up. Heisy, on the other hand . . . .

      • Tae Yun

Billy does too much ‘fly ball’ type of swings lately. he’s got 5 home runs but… not a good at bat in this key situation. to me that’s crap…. but i love the kid

      • charlottencredsfan

Not really, but Heisey’s was a complete disaster. He never had a chance.

  76. Kurt Frost

I would think a 26 year old well conditioned manly man like Mesoraco could play 2 games in 1 day.

  77. sergeant2

Does the 1st base coach not tell a young player like TB to shorten his lead, or to be alert for throw from the catcher.

    • George Mirones

We got him from Atlanta a while back as they gave up on him. 2013 you would have thought he was on track to be the late inning set up. This year he has only been effective when trailing by 4 or 5 runs. He is as, some on this blog have said in the past, a gas can looking for a match.

  78. charlottencredsfan

Is it too much to ask JJ to hold the Cubs to par??

  79. RedAlert

Boy ,JJ just can’t have a clean inning – terrible , terrible location to Rizzo

  80. Tae Yun

It’s JJ remember… the home run “giving” machine for the Big Red Machine

    • charlottencredsfan

I want him to play on our team.

      • charlottencredsfan

        I don’t know:

        April: .283/.407/.457
        May: .255/.388/.479
        June: .295/.373/.571

Kid looks like an an airliner on the tarmac getting ready to take off. I’m buying his stock. 24 years old.

      • James Dehan

Not too bad of a line at all – .275 19 HR 48 RBI – seems pretty good. Walt bring him to Cincinnati – the Reds need a 1B – you know, one that’s healthy.

      • Kurt Frost

That’s not going to happen so I’ll stick with the throat punch.

      • BigRedSaguaro

Got to see him play in Triple A Tucson before the Pads traded him

  81. PETEROSE_HOF_NOW

Jumbo > Hoover …..this was at worst >= to @ spring training also, more of Walt’s brilliance…..

  82. James Dehan

Just got on the board – just noticed and its pretty cool that Todd is doing the HR Derby. Couldn’t ask for a nicer guy. Good luck Todd.

  83. charlottencredsfan

Not pretty but still a goose-egg. Attaboy JJ.

  84. Billy Joe in Chi-Town

So our home run derby participant now bats with the bases empty, thanks to Barnhart’s TOOTBLAN.

  85. Vicferrari

Little, by little, Keep up this pace and we are going to extra innings

  86. Jeff Morris

Bases loaded, 0 out and Heisey strikes out. Predictable. Just like Ondrusek, Heisey has been here too long. He is great in LF in later innings, but not good at all with the bat.

    • charlottencredsfan

When did you become politically correct.

      • sergeant2

I thought it was a good example of how this PC business has gone too far. Politically correct I ain’t.

  87. sergeant2

Coghlan almost walks all the way to the dugout after each swing. I’m sure the umps love that.

  88. James Dehan

Is Thom Brennaman just breaking into being an announcer – the dude gets confused soooooooo easily.

  89. charlottencredsfan

After watching Jumbo and Carlos pitch, maybe JJ thinks it’s a good time to pick up his game?

    • James Dehan

Why did the Reds feel like they needed to call up a pitcher from who knows where when they have such a rested bullpen that has looked pretty good tonight?

      • charlottencredsfan

A leftover from the Baker Dynasty?

      • James Dehan

Man – are these Brewers starting to implode or what? 9-5, oops 9-7 Phils in in the 7th. Hang on Phillies. And Reds lets set a new precedent – come back from a more than 1 run deficit. Show some guavos.

  90. PETEROSE_HOF_NOW

how much more would we like Shierholtz in our lineup rather than Ludwick…. LH bat, younger, cheaper, better fielder

    • charlottencredsfan

Bet the Cubs’ bench is holding its collective breath.

    • Billy Joe in Chi-Town

Let’s hope there is a reason to pinch hit for JJ this inning!

  91. sergeant2

Nice job by Hoover, the guy has closer stuff. Its just too bad he can’t be consistent with that stuff. (at least as of yet)

  92. Pooter

Looks like the Wright time for a Reds’ rally!

  93. Jeff Morris

Wish Reds would have started Stephenson or something like that, to see how they would do on a Major League level? It would have been interesting

  94. charlottencredsfan

Skip is really starting to produce.

  95. PETEROSE_HOF_NOW

OK, Walt, I give you credit for Schumaker…….now your back on my s-list

  96. sergeant2

Good at bat for Schumaker. Time to put our rally hats on. Come to think of it I don’t care much for that rally hat stuff. How about time to do some business. Go Reds!

  97. PETEROSE_HOF_NOW

    better PH MEsoraco!!!!!!!!!!!!

  98. charlottencredsfan

Another golden opportunity – let’s make it happen guys.

  99. Jake

Down by 3?! Fire sale! Fire Bryan Price, this team is done!

  100. charlottencredsfan

Sacks packed and Mes is up!!!

  101. Pooter

Walks will haunt. This is a GRAND time for Mes to be up. Rally, rally. I’m in a library and I have to keep my emotions to myself. So hard. So this is me yelling and clapping loudly!!!!!!!!!

  102. charlottencredsfan

Hit it hard, all you can ask.

  103. charlottencredsfan

    Okay Billy, earn your check.

  104. Jake

I would’ve taken a grand slam instead of a DP. At least we got 1 run

  105. Pooter

    BILLLLYYY FREAKING HAMILTON!!!!!!!!!!

  106. PETEROSE_HOF_NOW

    F-yes…….slidin’ billy!

  107. Pooter

One run game, our specialty. Keep chippin’ away!

  108. Pooter

Say it with me everyone! D-Fense!!! D-Fense!!!

  109. sergeant2

I know one thing, I sure feel good about the chances the Reds can come back and win this ballgame. Go Reds!

    • charlottencredsfan

Right Sarge. Cubs are on their heels let’s hope Logan can keep them there.

    • Pooter

You probably just saw Ondru-suck on the hill. Maybe he’ll pull a JJ tonight!

  110. Billy Joe in Chi-Town

Todd needed a Votto approach there, he should have known they would not give him a good pitch to hit with BP next, he needed to be more disciplined. They enticed him to fish, and he did.

  111. James Dehan

Cards – Pirates tied 4-4 in the 9th. How about a Reds comeback (man that Billy Hamilton can hit). And the Phillies hang on G___O … R__E__D__S__ !!

  112. Jake

What’s Ondrusek think he’s doing out there?

  113. Foxsport

I suggest Hamilton bat cleanup, easily the most clutch hits with 2 out in the last month.

  114. charlottencredsfan

If Rizzo walks, I’m not complaining.

    • Billy Joe in Chi-Town

He got an out to start the inning, how is that not good?

  115. yorktownred

    What defense! Great play Zack.

  116. RedAlert

Absolute last guy that needs to be pitching right now – Cozart just bailed his tail out with a sensational play

  117. George Mirones

It is time, get 2 bring in Broxton and go home. Let the Cards , Pirates, and Brewers worry about that.

  118. Redgoggles

Whether they complete the comeback or not, the Cubs have to feel us coming at this point. These situations (down small, late) are when we always go for the HR instead of work the count for walks, go the other way, let the pressure work with you instead of warning track outs.

  119. PETEROSE_HOF_NOW

come on, let’s win this F’r…

  120. charlottencredsfan

    Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce!!!!

    • yorktownred

The guy is such a bum. Can’t wait til he comes out of his slump. BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  121. MrRed

There’s your multi-run comeback ladies and gentlemen!

  122. MrRed

Come on Luddy! Be a professional here and stop chasing that garbage!

  123. PETEROSE_HOF_NOW

Wonder what Shierholtz would have done

    • Billy Joe in Chi-Town

Yes, he is clearly guessing and is overmatched. Veteran who has apparently lost his mojo, if he ever had it. Kind of sad, really.

  124. Jake

C’mon schu, drive in Bruce cause ludwick couldn’t

  125. sergeant2

I think Ludwick is a head case at this point. That was an embarrassing at bat for a veteran like Ludwick.

  126. charlottencredsfan

    Schu is on every pitch.

      • charlottencredsfan

Honestly James, he could not of hit that pitch if he swung. He isn’t missing contact on many swings, at the moment at least.

Hope Ondru is on the shortest leash.

  127. charlottencredsfan

Not a very good call by the ump. Cozart can pick him up.

  128. Billy Joe in Chi-Town

Cozart hung in and hit it well. Something Ludwick could not do. Oh well.

  129. James Dehan

Pathetic execution by the 3 headed monster in LF – Heisey, Ludwick and Schumaker. Walt has to get a bat – pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssse ….

    • pinson343

Schumaker was called out on a pitch that was both low and outside. And Cozart hit the ball well. Ludwick was pathetic.

  130. George Mirones

Don’t know about Logan in the ninth. Yet the batting order turned over. Probably Santiago to PH for pitcher then Billy.

    • RedAlert

Doubt this gonna end well – everyone on this board knows it except PRice – stupid to run this guy out there in a tie game in the 9 th

      • Vicferrari

Gotta defend Price, running out of players, bottom end of the line-up, waste a pitcher with Logan leading off next inning, might go extra, hopefully Reds walk-off

  131. sergeant2

Sometimes when its late, and late in the game, I think there are times when the home plate ump starts calling non strikes strikes cause he’s tired and wants the game to be over. Sure seems that way at times.

  132. Logic

I feel like leaving Logan in there is just asking for it.

  133. AARON D

I just get the feeling we’re take a major gamble with Ondrusek in right now.

  134. Billy Joe in Chi-Town

Logan only guy to get Coughlan out, it seems. So don’t complain too much.

  135. Kyle

That was a nice pitch by Logan. And again.

  136. Ryan

Wish the bullpen could do this every night…no runs given since they took over.

    • Vicferrari

Got Super Todd coming up after 2 best hitters, ideal walk-off material

  137. charlottencredsfan

Really nice job, Logan. Let’s drive a stake through the Cubs’ heart this inning!

  138. RedAlert

Ok Ondru – nit a supporter but I will give you same credit I did Hoover – nice job !!!

  139. hamiltonred

When did J. Brox lose all that weight and steal Ondrusek’s jersey?

  140. GeauxReds

Who was that masked man, anyway?

    • MrRed

It’s Pena. Let’s take whatever we can get out of that gift.

      • yorktownred

Too bad. Hamilton would have been standing on third on that bloop.

  141. charlottencredsfan

That’s my Cubs!! Pena still ailing but I hope he sticks around for a couple of more seasons.

  142. sergeant2

How bout dem apples. I like Pena, glad lady luck was with him on that at bat. Go Reds!

  143. charlottencredsfan

BHam puts the ball in play, 95.75% chance of a run scoring.

  144. James Dehan

Like I just said – good move by Price – leaving Mez in – that may have just been a precusor to icing the cake a little bit. This would be a huge win. Maybe the Reds can call up a class A pitcher to let the Cubs have a 6-0 or 7-0 lead

  145. PETEROSE_HOF_NOW

    Billy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  146. charlottencredsfan

Reds win, Reds win, Reds win!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yahooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!

  147. James Dehan

Hamilton is doing it – congratulations Reds – way to cover for your bone head manager.

  148. MrRed

Look at the forlorn Cubs fans on that replay as the ball falls in fair territory! Just classic!

  149. AD

Man, how much does that suck for the Cubs ??

They should be able to go for the kill these next two games with minimal Cub resistance.

  150. Pooter

What a comeback!!!! That’s baseball, folks

  151. John Walsh

    They finally battled back…

    And the momentum builds…

Like I said in the thread about Votto’s injury, it’s darkest just before the dawn.

    • Vicferrari

Got Lucoy out in bottom of 8th representing the tie run, 9-7 Phillies top of 9th

  152. Jake

We need to lock Billy up in contract for a few years, guy is playing amazing

    • Billy Joe in Chi-Town

Yes, he is making Choo a distant memory.

      • Vicferrari

As ridiculous at that would have sounded in Spring Training, in April, in May, I would have to say Choo who? Hamilton’s speed is just a plus not his asset at this point.

    • James Dehan

Relax dude, he’s years away from arbitration – and about 5 from free agency. Rest assured, Billy’s going to be in Cincinnati for a very long time.

  153. pinson343

The Reds pick up their first big comeback win. All they needed was a horrible outing from a starting pitcher. Relentless offense.

  154. RedAlert

Man , And just think this guy gonna be Leadoff man for Reds for years to come – just awesome !

    • James Dehan

Propel the Reds into 1st – Ludwick, Schumaker and Heisey are simply not getting it done. REDS NEED A BAT – BIG TIME !!!!

      • Mutaman

Heisey had 3 hits in the opener. Schumaker is playing decent. Everyone contributed today.

      • James Dehan

Point definitely made. However, they are all hitting in the mid .250s and below. The Reds need a LF that could actually hit – like mid .280s+ with some power. Those 3 players are mediocre at best and the Reds could sure use an upgrade. .

    • James Dehan

Learning curve, but Price is getting better – still plenty of room for his improvement See a lot of Price going 2 steps forward and 1 back. Homberg should never, never of started tonight. Depend on your bullpen skipper. Contreras could have started and given him 3. Reds saved their skipper’s bacon though – that’s for sure. .

      • drew

There is not one manager in baseball that would have pitched his bullpen in the second game of DH. Not one

      • James Dehan

No problem there either – Mr. Joketty better make his presence known in the next couple of weeks. Love these kids, but a solid veteran would be a big pick-up post All-Star game. You don’t win the division in early-mid July (just ask the Brewers). A lot of baseball left to be played – and that includes against the Cardinals. They have added some new talent – the Reds just better plan on keeping pace. .

      • James Dehan

And here’s hoping the Pirates come limping into Cincinnati this week-end — and the Reds continue their roll right to the ASB and beyond.

  155. sergeant2

Piece of cake, was there any doubt (don’t answer that) Man-o-man what a thrilling win for the Reds. If there’s one thing I love about baseball its watching my Reds getting key hits at key times. Its the kinda thing that gets this old coot to forget his arthritic knees and jump up from a sitting position in excitement. Wow, wow and wow. Go Reds! Adios Amigos.

    • RedAlert

Sarge you are the calming influence on this board – keeps things in perspective for the rest if us that tend to get worked up too much at times – let’s keep this train rollin’ tomorrow !

      • sergeant2

Thank you very much for the kind words. And yes, lets keep this Reds train rolling. Go Reds!

    • James Dehan

Please put one on lay away – I’m not like the Red’s front office – like to peruse the scenery. Check back with me in a couple of months. If the Reds are in 1st place by Labor Day then you will have made a sale.

    • sergeant2

Can’t imagine what it would be like to follow the Reds with no Redleg Nation. Its well worth buying a tee-shirt to keep Redleg Nation up and running. Go Reds! Go Redleg Nation!

  156. AD

we are 3 brewer outs away from being 3.5 back….

  157. RedsfanPa

Amazing comeback….. great contributions from many players, special shout out to the bullpen. Go Reds!!

  158. Steve Mancuso

Brewers giving some ground, but Reds coming on like a locomotive. Haven’t been within 3.5 games of first place since 3 months ago – April 9.
