Scranton/WB 8 – Louisville 0
The Louisville Bats are still on a break. Well, everyone except Mike Hessman (2-for-4, 2B) and Denis Phipps (2-for-4, SB). They collected 4 of the Bats 5 hits.
To be fair, they were facing Yankees prospect Michael Pineda, who is working his way back from should surgery. For Louisville, Chad Reineke (8-7, 3.53 ERA) allowed 4 runs and 9 hits over 6 innings. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out 3. Kanekoa Texeira allowed one hit in a scoreless relief inning.
The Blue Wahoos outhit the Huntsville Stars 8-4, but couldn’t push a run across the plate. Travis Mattair had three of the teams hits, including a pair of doubles. Ryan LaMarre singled twice and walked once.
Daniel Renken allowed just 1 run on 3 hits, walking 4 and striking out 4 over 6 innings. Lee Hyde pitched two scoreless innings, striking out two. Josh Ravin pitched a scoreless 9th inning.
High A
Visalia 9 – Bakersfield 3
Bakersfield scored all their runs in the 1st inning. Juan Duran (1-for-3, 3B, BB) tripled in two runs, then scored on David Vidal’s lone hit of the game. Kyle Waldrop (2-for-4) was the only Blaze player with more than one hit.
James Allen gave up 6 runs in his 2-inning start. Kyle Lotzkar, Jimmy Moran and Pat Doyle each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
Low A
Dayton 7 – Beloit 6
Seth Mejias-Brean. Seth Mejias-Brean gave the Dragons an early 1-0 lead with an RBI double in the first inning. Later in the 7th inning, Mejias-Brean tied the game at 3-3 on an RBI single. The Beloit Snapper put a 3-spot on the Dragons’ bullpen in the 9th inning to take a 6-3 lead. When Seth Mejias-Brean walked to the plate with the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning, he turned the potential loss into a victory with a walk-off grand slam.
Daniel Pigott had two doubles in four trips to the plate and scored a run. Jesse Winker was 0-for-2 with three walks and scored a run.
Ismael Guillon was pitching well through 4 innings, but the wheels fell off in the 5th inning, as he allowed three runs to the first four batters he faced. Tony Amezcua didn’t allow a run in two relief innings. He allowed 1 hit, 4 walks, and struck out 3. Michael Lorenzen allowed a walk and a strikeout in an inning of work, but allowed no hits or runs.
Rookie
Grand Junction 10 – Billings 8
Gabriel Rosa (2-for-4, BB, 2B, RBI, 2 R) and Carlos Sanchez (2-for-5, 2 RBI, R) each had a pair of hits. Phil Ervin (1-for-3, 2 BB, R, RBI) reached base three times.
Pedro Diaz started and allowed 6 runs (5 earned) on 8 hits over 4 innings.
Cory Thompson (2-for-4, 2B, R, RBI) and Logan Uxa (2-for-3, RBI) provided the team’s offense as both runs scored in the 3rd inning. Thompson doubled in Aristides Aquino, then later scored on a Uxa sac fly.
Jeremy Kivel allowed 2 runs, 1 earned, in his 4-inning start. He gave up 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 4. Soid Marquez followed with 3 shutout innings, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 5.
