W: Y. Darvish (8-3)
L: M. Latos (7-2)
S: J. Nathan (27)
–Despite taking the loss, Mat Latos pitched very well today. 3R, 2ER, 9 K, 6.2 IP. That’s solid
–Joey Votto was on base three times again today.
–Jay Bruce also had a pair of hits. He really cooled off for a couple of games, but it looks like he might be avoiding a prolonged slump. A non-slumping Jay Bruce continues to be that carrot Reds fans constantly hope to reach. Maybe one day.
–A Mat Latos error resulted in two runs scoring on a suicide squeeze. That effectively cost the Reds the game. It also didn’t help when Jay Bruce lazied in that throw from right.
NOT SO RANSOM THOUGHTS
–Today was a tough loss and the last two days have really shown the importance of fielding the ball. Good fielding yesterday and the ball doesn’t go into extras. Good fielding today and the Reds maybe get a shot in extras.
–I know the Reds dropped this series, but after the last two days, I feel better about the team. Failing to get hits against Darvish doesn’t bother me. The Rangers couldn’t get to Latos for a long time, either. That’s what good pitching does. I was very pleased with how the Reds worked the count and didn’t let this turn into a Darvish complete game.
–Someone mentioned this in the comments the other day, and they’re right. Manny Parra has been a very solid pitcher for quite some time now. I don’t feel afraid when he comes in anymore.
–The schedule gets much easier now. San Fran, Seattle, and Milwaukee coming up before they face the Braves and head to the All-Star game.
