Games Played on 6/23/2013
Minor League Player of the Day: 21 year old RHP Jose Guzman earned his first win for the Mustangs, throwing 5 innings of 3 hit / shutout baseball. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out 6. He threw in 11 games last year in the Arizona League, in 17.1 innings, his ERA was 5.71, but he did strike out 17 batters in those 17 innings.
20 year old Billings catcher, Daniel Paula, was 3-4 with a double and a homer. He’s 6 for 11 in the young Pioneer League season, after putting up a .341/.391/435/.827 slash line last year in the Arizona League.
AAA
Billy Hamilton was 2-5 with a SB (47), but he was also picked off and caught stealing. He has elevated his average to .243, but his OBP is still only .299. Denis Phipps was 2-3, Emmanuel Burriss was 2-4. Nefi Soto his a homer (9). Chris Heisey only collected one official AB, but also had a sac fly.
Yohan Pino had a rough day, giving up 6 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits and 2 walks (4 K’s) in 4.1 innings. Jose Arredondo relieved him and finished the 5th (which makes me wonder what role he’s in in Louisville). Pedro Villarreal, Zach Duke and Logan Ondrusek all threw scoreless innings. (Duke and Ondrusek, both have yet to give up a run at Louisville.)
AA
Pensacola 4 – Montgomery 3 14 innings
Luis Durango went 3-5, as the only Blue Wahoo with more than one hit (they only had 8 in 14 innings). He had a double and a walk. The winning run (unearned) scored on his bunt single (and an error).
Loek Van Mil (2 innings), Chris Mannon (3 innings), and Wilkin De La Rosa (3 hitless innings and the win) held the Biscuits scoreless over the final 8 innings of the game.
High A
The bullpen of the Blaze was their undoing, as they surrendered 4 runs in the final two frames to allow High Desert a 9-8 win. Kyle Lotzkar took the loss (and blown save), giving up 3 runs without giving up a hit in the 9th, he walked 2 and struck out 1. His ERA since his demotion to Bakersfield is 8.10.
Steve Selsky was 2-4 with a double, Joe Terry was 2-4, and Juan Silva was 2-5 with a double.
Low A
Lake County Lansing 14 – Dayton 8
Sunday saw a seesaw game that saw Lake County Lansing jump out to a 4-0 lead, then the Dragons take the lead back, only to have Lugnuts put the game away with a 8 run 7th inning.

Ismael Guillon continued his struggles, going only .2 of an inning, allowing 3 hits and 3 walks en route to giving up 4 runs (2 earned). The only Dragon’s hurler who had a good day was Ben Klimesh, who threw 2 scoreless innings, after the damage had all been done.
