Minor League Players of the Day: Several noteworthy performances.

  • Louisville outfielder Felix Perez was 2-for-5 with a walkoff homerun in extra innings.
  • Pensacola scored 8 times in the 8th inning. Donald Lutz was a homerun shy of the cycle and scored twice in the 8th inning.
  • Dragons starter Drew Cisco struck out 12 batters over 6 innings.

Louisville 5 – Indianapolis 4 in 10 innings

Felix Perez (2-for-5, HR) won the game in the bottom of the 10th inning on a walk-off solo homerun. Jason Donald also went 2-for-5 with a solo homerun in the 2nd inning. Neftali Soto (3-for-4, BB, R, RBI) also had a multi-hit game.

Pedro Villarreal (ND, 0-1, 2.84 ERA) allowed 3 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks over 6 innings. He struck out 2.

Pensacola 10 – Jacksonville 2

Pensacola scored 8 times in the 8th inning to win the game. Donald Lutz (3-for-5, 2B, 3B, 2R, RBI, SB) led off the 8th inning with a triple and scored twice in the inning. Bryson Smith was 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and 3 runs scored.

Redleg Nation spotlight player, Tucker Barnhart (2-for-2, BB, SF, R, 3 RBI) had an RBI in each of the 2nd, 4th, and 8th innings. Barnhart snapped an 0-for-10 streak with his great game. He’s hitting .343/.429/.429 for the year.

Chad Rogers (ND, 1-0, 2.45 ERA) allowed just 1 run over 6.2 innings. Rogers gave up 2 hits and 3 walks while striking out 5

High A
Bakersfield 4 – Lancaster 2

Bakersfield won their second game in a row, and three of their last four by putting a 4-spot on the board in the 2nd inning. Four different players had an RBI. Leadoff hitter Juan Perez went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Kyle Waldrop, Yorman Rodriguez, and Yovan Gonzalez had two hits each.

The Blaze pitching made the early scoring outburst stick. Jake Johnson (1-0, 4.38 ERA) allowed both runs over 5 innings; 5 hits, no walks 4 strikeouts. Carlos Gonzalez, Brooks Pinckard, and Kyle McMyne combined for 4 shutout innings in relief.

Low A
Dayton 7 – Lake County 2 in 11 innings

Drew Cisco (ND, 1-0, 1.38 ERA) started and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits over 6 innings. He allowed 0 walks while striking out 12. Cisco has thrown 19 innings in his 3 starts this year, issuing just 1 free pass and striking out 22.

Wes Mugarian pitched 3 shutout innings in relief, striking out 4. Alejandro Chacin pitched the final two innings for Dayton, striking out 3 and extending his scoreless streak to 8.2 innings.

Zach Vincej (3-for-5, 2B, 3B, 2R, RBI) hit a triple that scored the go ahead run in the top of the 11th inning. The Dragons went on to score 4 more times that inning. Jeff Gelalich (3-for-4, BB, R, RBI) also picked up three hits in the contest.

Tanner Rahier (2012 2nd round draft pick) was promoted before the game from extended spring training, made the start at third base, and picked up a single and RBI in his first game.
