Let’s recap tonight’s titanic struggle….

FINAL

W: H. Bailey (11-9)
L: A. Burnett (15-7)
S: J. Hoover (1)
BOX SCORE

POSITIVES
–The “Wooooo” cry returned to the ballyard for a third straight game, and with the sweep, the Reds may have just ended Pittsburgh’s season. That team looks defeated.

–Homer Bailey pitched an outstanding game: seven innings, one run allowed on six hits. Homer is now 11-9 with a 3.93 ERA on the season.

–Brandon Phillips had two hits from the leadoff spot again. Ryan Ludwick doubled and walked, and he scored the go-ahead run.

–Sam LeCure pitched another perfect inning. He has looked very good recently.

–Some excellent defense tonight, particularly by Ryan Hanigan and Brandon Phillips. Neither of those should surprise you.

–Last night, Jonathan Broxton closed out the game for his first save as a Redleg. Tonight, it was JJ Hoover. Hoover looked very good, and I was glad to see him get this opportunity. Kudos to Dusty.

NEGATIVES
–None.

NOT-SO-RANDOM THOUGHTS
–Outstanding win, and a sweep for the good guys. The Reds now hold an 11.5 game lead over St. Louis in the National League Central. The magic number is eight. The Reds are thirty games over .500.

A special season, indeed.

–The Reds swept the series despite the fact that the Pirates out-hit Cincinnati in all three games.

–The Redlegs have a day off before traveling to Miami.

–In case you hadn’t noticed, the Reds haven’t lost since the introduction of the “Wooooo.” I’m just sayin’….

–You may have noticed that we’ve added a magic number countdown in the left sidebar. Dropped it from ten to eight today. Magic Number:

Wooooo!
