Minor League Player of the Day: Bakersfield 3B, Travis Mattair went 3-3 with a homer, driving in a run and scoring 2. The 23 year old RH Mattair finished the regular season with a slash line of .274/.344/.465 with 19 homers and 82 RBI at High A. In the second half of the season, his OPS was .893.
AAA
The Bats season ended as it has pretty much of the season, with a loss. The Bats only collected 3 hits on the day, with no one having more than one.
Rehabbing Joey Votto had a bad day, going 0-3 (striking out twice) and having a throwing error.
Nick Christiani threw 3 shutout innings of relief, allowing only 1 hit. Bill Bray pitched to 3 batters in the 8th and didn’t retire anyone. Bray is likely done for the year.
AA
Brodie Greene went 3-4 with a double, Billy Hamilton went 2-4 with a double, as did Josh Fellhauer.
Chris Manno threw a scoreless inning for Pensacola, but gave up a hit and a walk. Mark Serrano got lit up in 3 innings of relief, giving up 6 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks.
High A
Bakersfield 7 – Rancho Cucamonga 4
The Blaze got ready for the playoffs with a 7-4 win. Travis Mattair went 3-3 with a homer, Dominic D’Anna homered for the second straight strong day, going 2-4 with a homer, Kurtis Muller was 2-3, and Steve Selsky had a homer.
Good start by Tim Crabbe, allowing only 1 run on 4 hits in 5 innings of work, walking 1 and striking out 5. Kyle McMyne threw 2 scoreless innings of relief, and Andrew Brackman threw a scoreless inning. Carlos Contreras got hit, giving up 3 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits in .2 innings, but Michael Dennhardt came in and got the final out.
Low A
The Dragons put up 16 hits, led by Jefry Sierra’s 3-4 with a double, Redleg Nation Spotlight Player, Sean Buckley finished the season on a strong note, going 2-5 with a homer and driving in 3 runs, Sammy Diaz went 2-4, Taylor Wrenn went 2-5 with a double, Junior Arias was 2-5 as was Yovan Gonzalez.
Ismael Gullion pitched 7 innings, allowing 7 hits and 3 runs (2 earned), walking 1 and striking out 9. El’Hajj Muhammad and Ryan Kemp threw scoreless innings.
Rookie
Robert Maddox went 2-2 with 2 walk, Beau Amaral went 2-4 with a walk, and Carlos Sanchez went 2-5.
Jose Amezcua got the win in relief, throwing 4 scoreless innings, allowing a hit, walking 2 and striking out 7. Jesus Adames picked up his first save with a scoreless inning of relief.
With the win, the Mustangs win the second half crown in the Pioneer League Northern Division by 1 game.
AZL Reds – Season Completed
The AZL Reds finished the season last in the AZL Central with a 18 – 38 record and 16.5 games back of first place. Jonathan Reynoso was the Red’s lone player named to the 2012 Arizona League All-Star Team. Reynoso, a 19 year old RH hitting OF, hit .311/.328/.411/.739 in 190 AB with 30 SB.
