Let’s recap tonight’s titanic struggle….
FINAL
Cincinnati 5
Arizona 2
W: J. Cueto (17-6)
L: W. Miley (14-9)
S: A. Chapman (33)
BOX SCORE
POSITIVES
–Another outstanding performance by Johnny Cueto, who went seven innings and allowed only two runs on five hits. Cueto now has 17 wins on the season. What a year for the Reds’ ace.
–What else can we say about Todd Frazier and Ryan Hanigan? Those guys have been great. Each were 2-4 with two RBI tonight; Frazier’s RBIs came on an eighth inning triple.
–Excellent work by Jonathan Broxton in the eighth, and Aroldis Chapman in the ninth.
–Brandon Phillips and Chris Heisey were each 2-4 with a run scored. BP had a double.
NEGATIVES
–None.
NOT-SO-RANDOM THOUGHTS
–That’s two straight wins to begin this six-game road trip.
–Even better, the rest of the National League cooperated tonight. First of all, the Cardinals were killed by the Pirates, so Cincinnati’s lead in the NL Central improved to seven games.
Also nice: Washington was beaten pretty badly themselves, the Nats’ fifth loss in a row. What that means is that Cincinnati has two more wins than any other team, and a better record overall than any team in baseball.
Wow.
–Johnny Cueto is the first 17-game winner in baseball.
Wow.
–One more wow:
