Let’s recap tonight’s titanic struggle….

FINAL
St. Louis 8
Cincinnati 2

W: A. Wainwright (13-10)
L: H. Bailey (10-9)
BOX SCORE

POSITIVES
–None.

NEGATIVES
–For four of his six innings today, Homer Bailey was pretty darn good. The other two innings were, well, not good. In the third, after two nice innings, Homer gave up three runs. Then, after two additional good innings, he gave up two more runs (the home run ball victimized him both times). A strange outing for Homer.

–No Red had more than one hit.

–I know everyone wants Drew Stubbs out of the lineup, but after watching Chris Heisey misplay a ball off the bat of Matt Holliday into a triple, I started to miss Stubbs’ glove.

Heisey dove for a ball that he had no chance whatsoever of getting, and it skipped right by him. (UPDATED: Image added)

–Sean Marshall was awful: two runs allowed on four hits, while only recording two outs.

NOT-SO-RANDOM THOUGHTS
–I’m not sure if anyone will read this recap because, really, why would you want to re-live that disaster of a game? Not a good performance by the good guys this weekend.

On the positive side, the Reds still lead the division by six games. That’s nothing to sneeze at.

–That was only the second series loss in thirteen post-All-Star-break series for the Redlegs.

–The Reds need to get back to their winning ways soon. I don’t want this division race to be within three games when the Reds travel to St. Louis for the final series of the season. A win tomorrow in Arizona would be a good start.
