The Reds won the lottery! As noted yesterday, the Reds won an additional first round draft pick in the 2013 draft in MLB’s first “Competitive Balance Lottery.” These lottery picks are also unique in that they can be used for in-season trades for other players; they cannot be traded for cash.

Sean Gallagher (8-6, 4.69 ERA) got the win by allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits and 4 walks over 7 innings. He struck out 4. J.J. Hoover pitched the final two shutout innings, allowing 1 hit, 1 walk, and striking out 3.

High Desert 7 – Bakersfield 6
Chris Berset was 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Devin Lohman was 3-for-4 with a stolen base, a run scored and an RBI. Steve Selsky had two hits, a walk, a stolen base, and an RBI.
Chad Rogers allowed 5 runs on 11 hits and 2 walks in his 5-inning start, while striking out 4. Blaine Howell, Daniel Wolford, and Andrew Brackman followed with a shutout inning each.
For Brackman, it was his 5th straight appearance without allowing a run and his 5th consecutive inning without issuing a free pass. Brackman walked 16 batters in 17.1 innings at Louisville, then walked 12 batters in his first 15.1 innings at Bakersfield. In his last 12 innings, Brackman has walked just 2 batters.

Juan Perez had half of Dayton’s hits, going 2-for-4 with a double. The lone Dragon run came on a Ryan Wright solo homerun.
Stalin Gerson (4-7, 4.43 ERA) allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 8 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings. He also struck out 3. Lucas O’Rear and Carlos Contreras pitched 3 shutout innings to finish out the game.
