Let’s recap tonight’s titanic struggle….
FINAL
Cincinnati 5
San Francisco 1
W: M. Leake (3-5)
L: M. Cain (9-3)
BOX SCORE
POSITIVES
–Mike Leake had a tall order tonight, facing one of the league’s best in Matt Cain. Leake responded by playing as good a baseball game as I’ve seen in a while.
First career complete game. One run allowed. Two hits at the plate, including his second homer of the season. Heck, he even made a nice defensive play on a line drive hit up the middle.
–Great game for Jay Bruce tonight, as well: 4-4 with two doubles and three RBI. I’ll take that every night.
–Joey Votto was 3-5 with a double and a run scored. Zack Cozart homered on the first pitch of the game, and the Reds cruised from there.
NEGATIVES
–Player X: 0-4 tonight, .184/.243/.312 for the season.
NOT-SO-RANDOM THOUGHTS
–Tonight’s game was almost a mirror-image of last night’s game. The Reds played good defense, got timely hits, and Mike Leake played a whale of a ballgame. Good stuff.
–Happy birthday to me.
–Mike Leake is just a ballplayer. That’s all there is to it.
Mike Leake may be the #reds best option at 3b.

–Strange play tonight, evidently, but I had stepped out of the room at the time. Haven’t seen the video yet, but:
Sandoval broke up unlikely DP at 2B, but called out after umpire conference for grabbing Cozart’s leg and pulling him down. #reds
