Let’s recap today’s titanic struggle….
FINAL
Cincinnati 3
Houston 5
W: J. Lyles (1-1)
L: B. Arroyo (2-4)
S: B. Myers (13)
BOX SCORE
POSITIVES
–Zack Cozart had two hits and two RBI on his sixth homer of the season. Todd Frazier had a double and scored a run in his only AB after entering the game late.
–Sean Marshall pitched a perfect inning, striking out two.
–Brandon Phillips made two great fielding plays in the fourth inning. Has anyone mentioned that BP is pretty good with the glove?
NEGATIVES
–Bronson Arroyo surrendered a season-high five runs, on eight hits and a walk in six and a third innings.
–We all like Miguel Cairo, and he has been injured this year…but sheesh. He went 0-3 today and he’s hitting a robust .135/.158/.216 on the season.
NOT-SO-RANDOM THOUGHTS
–Cozart looks like he might be rounding into form again, but at this point, he has a .286 OBP. That’s simply awful for a leadoff hitter. Combine that with Drew Stubbs, who hit second again today with his .297 OBP…well, it’s a wonder Joey Votto ever has anyone on base in front of him.
–Arroyo hasn’t picked up a win in a month.
–Okay, day off tomorrow. Reds are still in first place!
