Let’s recap tonight’s titanic struggle….
FINAL
Cincinnati 3
Milwaukee 8
W: Y. Gallardo (2-3)
L: H. Bailey (1-3)
BOX SCORE
POSITIVES
–Jay Bruce went 2-4 with 2 RBI and his 10th homer of the season. Bruce is now hitting .306/.342/.667 on the season. That’s good.
–Brandon Phillips went 2-4 with a double and two runs scored. Zack Cozart had two hits, including a double.
NEGATIVES
–Homer Bailey was awful. After 40+ pitches in the first inning, it was clear that Homer was not on his game tonight. Final line: 3.2 innings, 6 runs on 6 hits and three walks, with four strikeouts. Not good.
–Ryan Ludwick was 0-3, and he’s now “hitting” .176/.263/.353. I’m not ready to cut bait on him, but Ludwick has been an unmitigated disaster thus far.
NOT-SO-RANDOM THOUGHTS
–Nothing to say. Homer was bad from the outset and the Reds were never in the game. No need to overanalyze it. A bad night for the good guys.
–We’ve documented the miserable season of Scott Rolen, but it’s nice to remember what a wonderful career he has had in baseball. We got a reminder tonight:
Rolen doubles in a run in the 8th. Ties someone named Ruth for 48th on the all-time list with 506. #Reds down 8-3.

–He was terrible tonight, but I stand by this tweet:
I know most of you guys/gals hate him, but I’m still a big Homer Bailey fan. Sorry about that. #reds

–Johnny Cueto vs. Zack Greinke tomorrow afternoon. This should be fun.
