Norfolk 4 – Louisville 2

Bill Rhinehart was 3-3 and Denis Phipps hit his 4th homer. Phipps, who many believe is “the next big thing”, is off to a slow start, hitting .165/.237/.314 in 30 games.

Jeff Francis took the loss, going 7 innings, giving up 9 hits and 4 runs, walking 1 and striking out 6. Scott Carroll and Travis Webb both had scoreless innings in relief.

AA

Mississippi 3 – Pensacola 2 (12 Innings)

The Blue Wahoos went to 12 for the second straight day, only coming out on the short end this time, losing 3-2. They scored a run in the 9th to force extras, but lost in the 12th.

Brodie Greene went 4-5, Jose Guzman went 2-6 with a homer (4).

Mark Serrano threw 5 shutout 2 hit innings, walking 2, striking out 3. Donnie Joseph threw 2 hitless/scoreless innings, walking 1 and striking out 4. Justin Freeman threw a scoreless inning.

Chris Manno took the loss, without giving up a hit in the 12th….he walked 2 and allowed the winning run on a wild pitch.

High A

Bakersfield 9 – Lancaster 6

The Blaze jumped off to a 9-0 lead, and with Tony Cingrani having throw 20 consecutive scoreless innings, you had to like their chances. Cingrani extended his streak to 23 before giving up a run in the 4th (after which he struck out the side). He gave up 4 unearned runs in the 5th, due to a 4 base error. Overall, Cingrani threw 6 innings, allowing 7 hits, 5 runs (only 1 earned), but he walked 3 and struck out 8. He also gave up a home run. Curtis Partch threw the final 3 innings for Bakersfield, allowing a run on 3 hits and striking out 3.

Donald Lutz (.316/.362/.650) went 3-5 with a double, Devin Lohman went 2-4 with a homer (3), Redleg Nation Spotlight Player Tucker Barnhart went 2-4 with 2 doubles, and Bryson Smith went 2-5 with a double. David Vidal also hit his 6th homer.

The Dragons and Ft. Wayne were postponed and will play a 7 inning doubleheader tonight.
