Billy Hamilton (.398/.481/.591) of the Bakersfield Blaze was unanimously chosen by the writers as the Redleg Nation Minor League Player of the Month for April. In 104 plate appearances over 23 games, Hamilton led the entire Reds organization with 24 runs scored and 29 stolen bases. Those 29 swipes came in 35 attempts for a 82.9% success rate.


Also receiving consideration this month were two of Bakersfield’s starting rotation.
Tony Cingrani allowed only one earned run to score just once in his four starts. He carries a microscopic 0.39 ERA and 0.609 WHIP into the month of May. In 23 innings, he has a 5 BB/28 K ratio.

Kyle Lotzkar hasn’t allowed a run in either of his last two starts. In four starts this year, he is 3-0 with a 1.25 ERA and 1.015 WHIP. He has a 9 BB/21 K ratio in 21.2 innings.

In the bullpen, Donnie Joseph has bounced back nicely from his 2011 season. He is yet to allow an earned run in 10 relief appearances. Joseph is 2-0 with 4 saves, a 0.800 WHIP, and a 3 BB/15 K ratio in 10 IP.

Donald Lutz (.315/.367/.629) led the organization in slugging percentage. He had 15 extra base hits, including 6 homeruns in 98 plate appearances. In 23 games, Lutz scored 17 runs, had 19 RBI, and stole 4 bases in 5 attempts. Mike Costanzo (.292/.407/.597) led the organization with 20 RBI. Costanzo was promoted to AAA two weeks ago, and has continued to swing the bat well for Louisville.
