Let’s recap today’s titanic struggle….
FINAL
Houston 6
Cincinnati 0
W: J. Cueto (3-0)
L: L. Harrell (1-2)
BOX SCORE
POSITIVES
–Jay Bruce was one of the few positives in last night’s game, and he didn’t disappoint today, either. Bruce went 2-3, with a walk, a 2-run double in the third, and a 2-run homer (his 6th) in the fifth inning. Bruce is hitting .295/.329/.590 for the season.
–Johnny Cueto was his usual brilliant self today, tossing seven shutout innings, and surrendering just five hits and a walk. Cueto is now 3-0 with a 1.39 ERA. I’m a little surprised his ERA is that high.
–Brandon Phillips was 2-4 with a triple, an RBI, and two runs scored.
–Zack Cozart made a spectacular defensive play, diving and throwing out a runner while seated. Amazing play.
NEGATIVES
–Aroldis Chapman was very shaky in the ninth — giving up a hit and two walks to load the bases — but he didn’t allow a run.
NOT-SO-RANDOM THOUGHTS
–That was fun.
–Bruce has homered in three straight games. Ryan Hanigan has hit in seven consecutive games. That’s the longest streak of any Red this season.
–The Redlegs are now alone in second place. They’ll go for the series win tomorrow afternoon behind the right arm of Mat Latos.
