From the Washington Post:
- The contract adds $225M over 10 years to his previous contract.
- $41M is “slightly” deferred with $3-5M due in some seasons on Nov. 1.
- The Joey Votto Charitable Foundation gets a GABP Suite for 10 games a season.
- He also can purchase a suite for an unspecified discounted price.
- He will donate 1% of his salary every year to charity, with 50% of that going to the Reds Community Foundation, the other half to a charity of his choosing in the local Cincinnati area.
- Salary: ’12-$9.5M ’13-$17M (as called for in previous contract) ’14-$12M ’15-$14M ’16-$20M ’17-$22M ’18-$25M (same for next 5 seasons). $20M option for ’24 with $7M buyout.
- Paid in 12 semi-monthly installments from April – September (normal for players)
- $3M deferred in ’13, $4M deferred in ’16 and ’17, $5M deferred from ’18-’23 with the money due on Nov. 1 of the year it is earned.
- Full no trade protection.
- $75,000 each for All Star, Gold Glove, Silver Slugger, and League Championship MVP. $100,000 for World Series MVP.
- NL MVP is worth $500,000, second place is $200,000, third place is $150,000, fourth $100,000, fifth $50,000
- Deal expires in 2024 when Votto is 41
