Let’s recap tonight’s titanic struggle….

FINAL
St. Louis 3
Cincinnati 1

W: K. Lohse (2-0)
L: M. Leake (0-1)
S: J. Motte (2)
BOX SCORE

POSITIVES
–For the second consecutive day: none.

NEGATIVES
–The Reds collected only four hits, one day after getting only three. I’m pretty sure that’s not very good.

NOT-SO-RANDOM THOUGHTS
PANIC!!!*

–Well, that wasn’t much fun. A very uninspired performance by our Redlegs. Not much else to say.

–Jay Bruce did have two hits, including a double, and Zack Cozart tripled again. Those are kinda positives. Also, Sean Marshall looked great. It would be nice if the Reds could get their closer into a game where he could possibly collect a save.

–Mike Leake gave up an early home run, then loaded the bases in the first inning before coaxing a double play to work out of the jam. In all, Leake went six innings, surrendering three runs on seven hits and a walk, striking out five. Not a terrible start, by any means. The offense just didn’t help him.

–I was hoping the Reds would make a tiny statement in this series, but the best we can hope for now is that the Redlegs can keep from being swept tomorrow afternoon. Johnny Cueto goes to the mound against Jaime Garcia. Should be a good ol’ good one.

I hope.

*No. Don’t panic. It’s only the fifth game of the season.
