From John Fay:
The Reds trimmed the roster to 31 Wednesday. They re-assigned catchers Corky Miller and Dioner Navarro and outfielder Daryl Jones to the minor league camp.
The roster is down to 28 healthy players. Right-handed pitchers Ryan Madson (elbow), Nick Masset (shoulder) and Jordan Smith (elbow) will start the year on the disabled list.
“We’re dwindling down, aren’t we?†Reds manager Dusty Baker said.
The Reds have 12 healthy pitchers in camp. That’s likely the number they will head east with. The only question in who will be the fifth starter: Homer Bailey or Aroldis Chapman.
Jeff Francis, in the camp as a non-roster invitee, remains in camp. He had the option to opt out of his contract on Wednesday, but didn’t, although he still has that option.
The final two spots will likely come down to Todd Frazier, Juan Francisco, Paul Janish, Willie Harris and Wilson Valdez.
John also tells us that Josh Judy was outrighted to Louisville, which I think clears a spot on the 40 man roster. Is that a good indication for Francis?
