Not much news coming out of Goodyear, Arizona, and the Reds spring training camp, but there are a few nuggets:
–Homer Bailey is in the best shape of his life!
–Brandon Phillips showed up to camp and discussed his favorite topic — a contract extension — while pretending not to be concerned about it. I’ll say what I’ve said before: it’s going to happen, whether sooner or later. All that remains a mystery is how many years and dollars the Reds are going to commit to Phillips.
(Also, for what it’s worth, Phillips hints in the article that he’s in the best shape of his life.)
–Dusty Baker knows the order of the starting pitching rotation, but he’s not going to tell you!!! He does note, for the record, that Johnny Cueto will be the Opening Day starter, as expected.
–Devin Mesoraco, Billy Hamilton, and Zack Cozart were all named on Baseball America’s Top 100 Prospects list. Two of those three are expected to start on Opening Day for the Redlegs. I’ll let you guess which two.
