Take a look at this article from the Enquirer today:

The Reds will consider extending closer Francisco Cordero’s contract. Cordero has an option for $12 million for 2012. He is willing to re-negotiate it.

“We’ve discussed it quite a bit,” Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said. “We haven’t made a final decision. Hopefully, we’ll address it before the end of the season.”

An extension is a “possibility,” Jocketty said.

The article goes on to cover most of the pros and cons…his age, the cost, the fact that there is no obvious replacement for him as closer…

I have to admit, I’m torn. Cordero is a good closer. Not great, but he’s had a very good year.

Now, I wouldn’t spend anywhere near $12M on him and wouldn’t extend him for long or give him deferred money (which is already going to come around and bite this team in the rear end), but I wouldn’t mind seeing him back in ’12 in the right circumstances.

What do you think?
