Lansing 3 – Dayton 2

Series tied at 1-1

The Dragons were one out away from advancing to the second round of the Midwest League playoffs when Lansing’s Matt Nuzzo hit a 2 out – 2 run walk off homer off reliever Drew Hayes to win the game 3-2.

The Dragons collected only 4 hits in the game, none for extra bases and were 0-7 with runners in scoring position. The Lugnuts weren’t any better, going into the 9th only having had one hit in the game, they finished with 3.

Dragons starter, Josh Smith, had a rough start, walking 4 of the first 9 batters he faced but then settled down, retiring the next 11. He ended up throwing 5.1, allowing a run on a hit, walking those 4 and striking out 8.

Pat Doyle and Blaine Howell contributed 1.2 hitless innings, taking the game to the 9th.

The Series finale is tonight in Lansing, game time 7:05 PM. Former #1 draft pick, Kyle Lotzkar (3-2, 4.32) will start for the Dragons against Lansing’s Egan Smith (7-7, 3.84).
