Let’s recap today’s titanic struggle….
FINAL — 10 innings
Cincinnati 3
St. Louis 2
W: B. Bray (5-2)
L: F. Salas (5-6)
S: F. Cordero (30)
BOX SCORE
POSITIVES
–Juan Francisco went 4-5, three of them singles, but the last single drove in the go-ahead run in the tenth inning.
–Drew Stubbs and Brandon Phillips had two hits apiece, including a double each. Yonder Alonso also had two hits. Edgar Renteria hit a two-run homer in the first to account for the rest of the Cincinnati offense.
–Bronson Arroyo gave up ten hits over eight innings, but surrendered only two runs. Arroyo struck out five and didn’t walk a batter. When he’s on, he’s still fun to watch.
–Excellent relief work by Arredondo, Bray, and Cordero, who notched his 30th save with a perfect tenth.
NEGATIVES
–Joey Votto went 0-5 with three strikeouts. He stinks.
NOT-SO-RANDOM THOUGHTS
–I love watching the Reds win a series in St. Louis. Before this weekend, Cincinnati had lost 13 straight series in Saint Looey.
–Is it just me, or have the Cardinals simply quit for the second straight season?
–Okay, I’m writing this while my fantasy football draft is going on. I drafted Cedric Benson with the first overall pick. That wasn’t a mistake, was it?
