Let’s recap tonight’s titanic struggle….

Washington 3
Cincinnati 4

W: F. Cordero (5-3)
L: C. Balester (1-2)

–Dontrelle Willis wasn’t great, but he went seven innings and allowed only a three-run homer. At the plate, Willis went 3-3, with a double. Can he play left field?

–Brandon Phillips had two hits and two RBI. Todd Frazier had a couple of hits, as well.

–Miguel Cairo had the big hit of the ninth, a walkoff single in the bottom of the ninth that scored Dave Sappelt and gave the good guys a come-from-behind victory.

–Todd Frazier played a few innings at shortstop, and looked surprisingly good. You never would have guessed that he hadn’t played SS since he was in A-ball.

–Down 3-1, the Reds battled back and won in dramatic fashion. These games are always fun.

–There were a couple of power outage delays, totaling about twenty minutes tonight. A couple of the light standards went dark temporarily. Don’t see that often.

–This was Willis’ fourth three-hit game of his career. The last time a Reds pitcher had three hits was last July, when Mike Leake did it against the Phillies.

–Willis has now made nine starts for the Reds, and he has not yet recorded a single victory.

–Cincinnati is now just one game below .500. Inching closer…
