Hitter of the Month: (Tie at 57 votes/32%)

Brodie Green, Bakersfield Blaze

Brodie was drafted by the Reds in the 4th round of the 2010 draft. The Reds jumped him over Rookie and A ball, straight into A+ at Lynchburg where he played the vast majority of the season at SS, with a taste of 2B and the OF. He put up a .269/.327/.330 season in 70 games.

In 2011, in his second year at A+ (this time in Bakersfield), he’s pushed his offensive numbers up to .294/.354/.439, an OPS jump of almost .140 points.

In July, he had a very strong month showcasing his skills going .333/.374/.632 with 9 doubles, 2 triples, and 7 homers. He also drove in 27 runs and stole 11 bases in 12 attempts.

Sean Buckley, Billings Mustangs

Buckley was drafted this summer in the 4th round by the Reds and assigned to Billings. In 35 games, he’s put up .318/.403/.614 with 10 homers. He’s split his time pretty evenly between 3B and DH.

In July, he continued his hot start (the Pioneer League doesn’t start until around the 20th of June), hitting .330/.417/.659 with 2 doubles, 9 homers, and 24 RBIs.

Pitcher of the Month (75 votes/45%)

Daniel Renken, Dayton Dragons (since promoted to Bakersfield Blaze)

Renken was drafted in the 25th round of the 2010 draft. He didn’t pitch much last season, only 6 innings in 5 games for the Dragons. When promoted to Bakersfield (at the end of July), he’d started 20 games for the Dragons, throwing 113.1 innings with a 1.218 WHIP and an ERA of 3.18. His K/9 ratio was 11.2 and he was only walking 3.1/9 innings.

He was especially outstanding in July, going 3-0. In 5 games, over 29.1 innings, he allowed only 14 hits and struck out 35, with an ERA of .93 and a WHIP of .90.
