Since July is almost over, it might be a good time to award — finally — the Redleg Nation Player of the Month award…for June. Yeah, it occurred to me last night that I never officially posted the winner, even though your votes resulted in a landslide.

So, without further ado, your RN Player of the Month for June 2011 is…Johnny Cueto. During June, Cueto was dazzling: 3-0, 1.51 ERA, 5 G, 35.2 IP, 28:8 K:BB. You, the Nation, rewarded Cueto by giving him fully 85% of the 1145 votes cast.

Runners-up, in order of finish:
–Francisco Cordero 5%
–Mike Leake 4%
–Joey Votto 3%
–Jonny Gomes 3%

On the minor league side of the ledger, current Red Dontrelle Willis won the Redleg Nation Minor League Pitcher of the Month award. In Louisville, Willis went 2-1, with a 2.51 ERA in 32.1 innings over five starts. He struck out 30 and walked only 6, with a 0.96 WHIP.

RN Minor League Hitter of the Month goes to another current Red, Zack Cozart. Cozart hit .377/.420/.549 for a 969 OPS. He had 10 doubles, 3 homers, a triple, 22 runs scored, and 15 RBI…not to mention that he stole five bases. Yep, Zack earned that promotion to Cincinnati.
