The Reds are currently showing interest in the Mariners’ Chone Figgins and Oakland A’s center-fielder Coco Crisp according to sources. This is a new development for Reds fans, but it reiterates that Walt Jocketty and the club are trying to improve the team for the pennant race. One other name that has been mentioned alongside Ubaldo Jimenez is Wandy Rodriquez of the Houston Astros.
Figgins is batting .183 with one home run and 14 RBI; yep, a 473 OPS. He is still under contract through 2013, and owed more than $20 million.
Coco Crisp has 27 stolen bases this season with the A’s but only has a .312 on-base percentage. He is in the final year of his contract and will be a free agent after the 2011 season. His speed around the base paths and his veteran experience would likely be appealing to some in the Reds organization.
What do you think of these potential moves?
Remember, the Reds still have strong interest in Jimenez. A deal centered around first baseman Yonder Alonso seems to be the most likely scenario.
