Teammates congratulate Jay Bruce on his selection as Redleg Nation Player of the Month (The Enquirer/ Joseph Fuqua II)

As expected, Reds right fielder Jay Bruce has been elected the Redleg Nation Player of the Month for May 2011.

This selection was a foregone conclusion, of course, as Bruce was named the National League’s Player of the Month as well. The Nation voted, and Bruce was the overwhelming choice, garnering 93% of the nearly 1000 votes. During May, Bruce pounded the baseball to the tune of .342/.402/.739, with 6 doubles, 12 HR, and 33 RBI.

Second in the voting was relief pitcher Carlos Fisher, who picked up 5% of the vote after putting up a 1.86 ERA during the month, and sacrificing his body and arm for your Redlegs. No other player received even ten total votes (see below).

Congratulations, Jay Bruce!
