Let’s recap today’s titanic struggle….

FINAL
Cincinnati 4
Philadelphia 10

W: C. Lee (4-4)
L: D. Thompson (0-1)
BOX SCORE

POSITIVES
–Jay Bruce was 2-4, with another homer. That’s 14 HR, which leads the NL. Bruce is hitting .289/.353/.556 on the season, which is excellent, in case you were wondering.

–Miguel Cairo had three hits, including two doubles.

NEGATIVES
–Everything else. This team is a complete and utter disaster right now. There is no way to sugarcoat it.

Milton, the goat with braces!

NOT-SO-RANDOM THOUGHTS
–Homer Bailey left after four uninspiring innings with a shoulder spasm that occurred when he was hitting. Sheesh. When it rains, it pours.

Bailey will be examined tomorrow.

–Daryl Thompson is not a major league pitcher.

–By and large, everyone needs to be patient with this team. It’s only May, and there is a lot of season left to be played. No reason to climb out onto the ledge; at least, not yet.

On the other hand, there is no question that this team is playing simply terrible baseball. They have lost eight out of nine, and they have looked awful in the process. The Reds aren’t fun to watch right now, and that’s in sharp contrast to the enjoyable brand of baseball we’ve become accustomed to seeing.

I wish I had some profound words, or some keen analysis to help us make sense of this mess. It’s just a bad time, but the Redlegs will come out of it. It’s going to get better. Can’t get much worse, right?

Right?
