Let’s recap today’s titanic struggle….
FINAL
Cincinnati 3
Philadelphia 10
WP: C. Hamels (6-2)
LP: B. Arroyo (3-5)
BOXSCORE
POSITIVES
– Jay Bruce went 3-4 for the game and was a perfect 3-3 against lefty Cole Hamels. Bruce hit his 12th home run of the season and drove in all 3 Reds runs.
NEGATIVES
– Everything else!
NOT-SO-RANDOM THOUGHTS
– That is 6 straight losses for the good guys.
– The Phillies, whose offense had been struggling a bunch of late, decided to break out the bats tonight against the Reds. I suppose it is the law of averages…which is why I continue to hold out hope that the Reds will get it together at some point. There is still a lot of season left to play, but it feels like a month ago that the Reds won 5 in a row (it was last week!).
– Todd Frazier made his major league debut tonight. It did not go well, but he’ll have plenty of more chances. He swung at the first pitch and flung his bat into the stands. The AB ended in a strikeout.
– Lance McAlister tweeted during the game that Jay Bruce is on pace for 41 HR and 101 RBI. Is that good?
– The Reds will try to stop the slide tomorrow with Johnny Cueto on the mound. The losing streak has to end sometime, it might as well be tomorrow.
