Let’s recap today’s titanic struggle….
FINAL
Florida 9
Cincinnati 5
W: R. Nolasco (3-0)
L: B. Arroyo (3-3)
S: L. Nunez (9)
BOXSCORE
POSITIVES
–Paul Janish had two hits, including a double. Drew Stubbs had two hits. Jay Bruce and Brandon Phillips each homered.
NEGATIVES
–Bronson Arroyo went seven innings, but he gave up 5 runs on seven hits. Three of those hits were homers, and that’s the most HR he’s allowed in a game this season.
–Nick Masset has been very good lately after a terrible start. Tonight, however…ugly. One inning, four runs allowed on three hits and a walk. Ugh. Masset gave up two homers, including one to Emilio Bonifacio — that’s only the second time Bonifacio has hit one over the fence in the majors.
–Jonny Gomes went 0-4 again, and his numbers are really starting to drop: .190/.352/.440. The OBP is still more than acceptable, however.
NOT-SO-RANDOM THOUGHTS
–Well, that was a pretty poor way to finish up a series. I picked a great day to be on a flight to Chicago, since I wasn’t forced to watch much of that mess.
–Joey Votto walked, the 28th straight game that he’s reached base.
–Time to turn the page. Houston comes to town tomorrow. No excuses; Reds need to win that series.
–You knew it was coming (we’re going to decide on a name for him soon):
