Minor League Player of the Day: Homer Bailey in his 2nd impressive rehab start threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing only 3 hits and striking out 6. The Reds said that they’d see how he feels today before making a decision as to whether he needs another rehab start.
AAA
Homer Bailey, in his second rehab start, threw 5.1 (72 pitches/48 strikes) scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits, a walk, and striking out 6. Chad Reinke got the save throwing 3 innings of 1 hit, shutout baseball.
Dave Sappelt (.343/.387/.571) went 3-4 with a double and a walk; Zack Cozart had his second consecutive 2 hit game (hopefully, this gets him on track) going 2-5, Yonder Alonso (.278/.322/.389) went 2-5 with a homer and 2 RBI’s, and Mike Griffin went 2-3 with 2 walks.
AA
Justin Lehr threw 4.1 shutout innings, allowing only 3 hits, but walking 5 while striking out 3. Donnie Joseph continues to struggle, blowing his second save, giving up 3 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks in 2 innings. Jose Arredondo threw a hitless 9th, striking out one.
Felix Perez hit a walk off homer to give the Mudcats a 4-3 win. Jose Castro was 2-4 and scored 2 runs.
High A
No games scheduled for the California League on Sunday. I did notice yesterday that the Blaze are only averaging 761 in attendance, that’s less than half of the next worst team. Yikes.
