    So Hermida comes up to take Francisco’s spot? Kind of strange. The last thing we need is another outfielder. But I guess we do need the lefty bat and he’s been hitting well in Louisville and it probably wouldn’t have been long before another big league club picked him up. Ok…welcome to the club, Jeremy.

    They only have one extra OF..and he’s a LH bat..seemed the likely choice. Now, what happens when Lewis is ready?

    Okay guess paul is on the outs…why isn’t hanigan hitting 2nd and edgar 8th?

      Maybe because Renteria is batting .444? Might as well ride him while he is hitting the ball.

    Bad news on Burton, worse on Leake, and are Frazier and some of the other AAA youngsters (and some like Frazier are not so young anymore) get a shot? With Francisco and Phillips both down and Rolen not a great bet to play 130 games, they are going to need something other than Cairo and Rent.

    What on earth did Leake steal? And this business with Phillips had better get straightened out fast. I really hope this isn’t turning into some showdown thing with Dusty.

    I think Dusty is just being cautious with Phillips, which is the right thing to do. Groin injuries can linger, much like hamstring issues. My guess on Leake (and this is just a guess), is that it involves a misunderstanding over an unpaid bill at a restaurant or bar.

    @renbutler: I’m ok with no Phillips as long as it’s really about the injury. Dusty leaned on him last Sept. when he was hurt, and he couldn’t hit. Don’t need Phillips coming out in May saying “yeah, my hammy never got better, I didn’t want to say anything.” My guess is that if they were playing St. Loius today, #4 would be penciled in, even if the Pirates have been pesky themselves.

    I stand corrected: Apparently Leake is accused of stealing some stuff from Macy’s, captured on store security cameras. Weird.

    So I didn’t get Frazier, but at least I got the LH outfielder we need. Makes Renteria and Cairo less redundant.

    I actually like what dusty is doing with Brandon, I would rather not risk him missing weeks over this, he needs to see this (Brandon). As for Leake, who cares and not sure why it’s story.

      I agree completely. If BP aggravates his groin, he could even be out for months. There is no reason to think Dusty is “punishing” him.
      The only drama has been due to BP’s impatience and his big mouth.
      And I say that as someone who likes BP and thinks he’s very important to this team.

    @Travis G.: Didn’t seen you Phillips comment before I posted… yeah, exactly. And my bad in my post, it’s BP’s groin, not hammy.

    So much for Leake never spending a day in the minors. I can’t imagine Jockety or Dusty is going to let that slide.

    @Sultan of Swaff: I would’ve liked to see Frazier too. Youth and defense, along with some versatility playing both IF and OF. Especially with Phillips out (although tonight should be the last night), having only Cairo and Renteria off the bench in the infield worries me

  14. eric nyc

    @CaptainTonyKW: I just don’t like seeing half of our starting infield out defensively. nothing against Cairo and Renteria, but combined they’re about 150 years old.

      That is fine enough but it does not have much to do with where they are batting in the lineup.

    @dn4192: Um…because his mugshot is in the paper? They’re not going to give him a bonus.

  16. dn4192

    @eric nyc:

    so his mugshot was in teh paper, big deal, exactly what does that have to do with anything? He hasn’t been convicted of anything and probably won’t and even if he is, again don’t see the big deal….

      Dont you realize that children copy the actions of their favorite players, actors, etc? Allowing high-profile citizens to set this kind of example and get away with it is a major problem. Forget sending him down. Send him home till this is settled. If he is convicted, hand him is outright release.

    @dn4192: I love how people on this board act like players never get sent to the minors as punishment for anything. It happens constantly, especially with young players. The guy got arrested for shoplifting. The club will do SOMETHING, trust me. And a quick trip to Louisville for a 23 year old player seems in order.

  18. dn4192

    @eric nyc:

    how does a “quick’ trip to the minors help? doesn’t that in fact hurt the team? Well the team do something, sure when and if he is found guilty, but as of right now he has not been.

  19. dn4192

    @jrob45601:

    Your kidding right? Did he kill someone, injure someone, mame someone? He is accused of stealing 5 tshirts valueing about $60. When he does something really bad, then I will be concerned…

  20. eric nyc

    @dn4192: Trust me, he’ll be sent down. It isn’t about helping the team in an on-the-field way. This team plays half a mile from Paul brown Stadium. The last thing Jockety, Dusty, or Castenelli wants is anything like this going on with their players. With a soon to be log jam at pitcher, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Leake sent down to single A for a couple weeks.

  21. jrob45601

    The major league minimum salary is over $400000. There is no excuse for stealing something. He needs more than sent down.

  22. Phill

    Leake will have his day in court and that should be the end of it.

  23. pinson343

    I like Hermida getting called up – as a LHed bat off the bench, he’s an upgrade over Francisco. Didn’t want to see it happen this way though – with Francisco getting hurt and Burton getting put on the 60 day DL. I feel badly for Burton.

    The problem with bringing up Hermida is: What happens when Lewis is ready ?
    Six OFers doesn’t make sense. And who gets sent down ?

  24. jrob45601

    @pinson343:
    Saw an update today that Burton threw and looked good. Think it was written like 5 minutes before they transferred him to the 60 day. Also, with on the hour updates for Cueto and Bailey, I haven’t seen a single thing about Lewis, his injury, recovery, or return. Anyone have any news?

  25. Greg Dafler

    Does Hermida have options left? Can he play other OF positions? I thought I read something in Spring Training that Hermida was mostly limited to RF.

    Daniel Dorn is still raking against RHP and can play LF, RF, and 1B. I’m not sure why he is down so low on the org depth chart, but I would have called him up as a LH bench bat.
