Let’s recap today’s titanic struggle….

FINAL
Pittsburgh 2
Cincinnati 11

W: M. Leake (2-0)
L: J. McDonald (0-1)
BOXSCORE

POSITIVES
–Ramon Hernandez went 3-4, with a double and the big blow of the game, a grand slam during the seven-run fifth inning. Drew Stubbs had a homer, a double, and a walk. Jonny Gomes hit two homers, drove in three…and of course, he walked.

–Joey Votto went 3-4 with a triple. Juan Francisco had two hits, but left late with an injury.

–Mike Leake went six innings, giving up two runs on four hits. He struck out six, but walked four. Jordan Smith, Bill Bray, and Nick Masset (!) kept Pittsburgh scoreless over the last third of the game.

NEGATIVES
–None.

NOT-SO-RANDOM THOUGHTS
–Nice rebound game for Cincinnati. Also nice: seeing the offense get geared up again.

–Leake wasn’t sharp, but he was just good enough.

–Joey Votto is hitting .451. Is that good?

–If the Reds have to disable Francisco, it will be interesting to see who they bring up. I hope it’s Todd Frazier, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Jeremy Hermida, since he swings from the left side of the plate. Of course, Frazier is on the 40-man roster, and Hermida isn’t, so Frazier may have the edge.

–Do you feel a little better this afternoon?
