Baker, in his pre-game meeting with Reds beat reporters today, expressed irritation at talk that Cueto possibly might need Tommy John elbow surgery.
“It’s in the bicep,†Baker said. “… And now we’ve got to answer questions to things we don’t know the answers to. We won’t know until he goes back to see Dr. Kremchek.â€Â
Baker and pitching coach Bryan Price both said they do not believe Cueto’s situation is grave, but concerns are heightened with Opening Day set for March 31. Cueto was to pitch the season’s third game, but odds of that are slim.
“Probably not … It set him back some, of course,†Baker said. “At this point you don’t want a setback, but you’ll take a setback versus something worse.
