Okay, I admit it. I’m one of those guys you see at a ballgame with pencil in hand, keeping score with my cryptic system. In my office at home, I have a stack of scorebooks, filled with games I’ve attended from every level of professional baseball (and a number of Division 1 college games, as well).
The last year or two, however, I’ve gotten out of the habit. There are a number of reasons for that — primarily, having kids with me at the games now keeps me otherwise occupied — but I miss it. When I don’t keep score, I never feel that I am completely aware of everything that is happening on the field.
Yesterday, I came across this, the “Eephus League Baseball Scorebook” (yes, great name). They’re raising money to print up a somewhat new version of the old baseball scorebook, and it looks great. Seems like exactly the type of scorebook that would get me back in the habit of scoring games again.
I made my pledge, and I’m looking forward to giving it a try this season. Let me know if you decide to try it, as well.
