The Reds and Edinson Volquez haven’t been able to work out a contract yet, but GM Walt Jocketty thinks they will come to an agreement that would allow the sides to avoid arbitration. Jocketty says that they’ll either agree to a one-year deal or a multi-year contract. (I wasn’t aware that other options were available.)
The other signings of this off-season were somewhat predictable (with the exception of the absurd two-year contract given to Miguel Cairo), but this one is decidedly different. The Volquez situation (sounds like a Jason Bourne movie, doesn’t it?) will be an interesting one. I’d love to know what the Reds’ brass thinks of Volquez’s long-term potential, and these contract negotiations will give us a bit of insight.
Would you sign Volquez to a long-term deal?
