You may have heard that Joey Votto won something called the Lou Marsh award, given to the best Canadian athlete of the year. Not a surprise, Votto had an unbelievable year, winning MVP and leading the Reds back to the playoffs for the first time in a decade in a half.
On the other hand, according to this moronic analysis, giving Votto the award is a slap in the face to amateur athletes. Why, Votto shouldn’t even accept the award! FanGraphs does a great job of deconstructing this silliness, so I’ll just point you over there.
