Interesting news this morning, via ESPN.com:
The Cincinnati Reds have reached agreement on a six-year, guaranteed $51 million contract with outfielder Jay Bruce, a baseball source told ESPN.com.
The deal includes a club option for a seventh year that could bring the overall value of the contract to $63 million, the source said. Bruce has a partial no-trade clause and the opportunity to earn additional money through award bonuses.
Now THIS is the type of extension/contract the Reds should be negotiating. As Loyal Citizen pinson343 said in the comments on another thread, they did it at the right time; Jay has shown his talent at the major league level, but the Reds got him signed before his breakout year.
Anyone not thrilled with this deal? If not, why not?
