Let’s recap tonight’s titanic struggle….

FINAL
Cincinnati 2
St. Louis 3

WP: Garcia (13-6)
LP: Arroyo (14-9)
S: Franklin (23)
BOX SCORE

POSITIVES
–No Red had more than one hit, but Paul Janish hit a homer to get the good guys on the board. I hate the fact that Soft J may not play again the rest of the season, since Orlando Cabrera will be back tomorrow.

–Excellent bullpen work, as usual, by Logan Ondrusek, Arthur Rhodes, and Nick Masset.

NEGATIVES
–Jonny Gomes continues to be a mixed bag. He got a double that scored Scott Rolen, and brought the Reds to within a run. However, for some ludicrous reason, he decided to try to take third on the throw and was thrown out by 600 feet. Of course, the next batter (Ryan Hanigan) singled to left, so Gomes would have scored and the game would have been tied.

Gomes does NONE of the little things well, and — as much as I like the big guy — it’s getting irritating.

NOT-SO-RANDOM THOUGHTS
–Well, the Reds now have a seven-game lead over the second-place WLBs. That’s still pretty good, isn’t it?

–St. Louis fans booed Brandon Phillips on every pitch. Once, after BP hit a foul ball behind first base, a fan tossed the ball back onto the field. (He was escorted out by security shortly thereafter.)

–Bronson Arroyo started off poorly, but he settled down to throw 6 innings, giving up three runs on six hits.

–Four o’clock game tomorrow, on national television. Should be a good ol’ good one, as they say.
