Breaking news:

It’s not quite official yet, but MLB.com has learned that the Reds will sign their top pick, N0. 12 overall Yasmani Grandal. Things should be finished up in the next half-hour or so, but it’s believed the University of Miami catcher will get $2.99 million and a Major League deal.

As I predicted in today’s podcast, Grandal is evidently signing a major league deal. That means that Grandal is about to be placed on the 40-man roster. Trouble is, there is no room on the 40-man. Stay tuned for details about how the Reds open up a spot for Grandal.

As of now, Grandal is the first 2010 draftee to get a Major League deal as part of his contract.
