The only thing we know for sure is that Drew Sutton was claimed off waivers by Cleveland, and he’s now an Indian. I always thought Sutton could help this team, and I wish him the best in Cleveland. Since we gave him away for free, it means that we got essentially no return for Jeff Keppinger, who really would have been an asset off the bench for the Reds this year.
According to Cincinnati’s version of Magnum P.I., it appears that Russ Springer is headed to the disabled list. Taking his place will be Carlos Fisher. I like Carlos Fisher, but I really don’t know what Jared Burton has to do to pull himself out of Dusty Baker/Walt Jocketty’s doghouse.
(By the way, go listen to my recent conversation with Magnum.)
Also interesting that they chose not to recall Aroldis Chapman at this time, despite multiple reports of Jocketty saying that Chapman is ready for the big leagues.
Finally, with Drew Sutton gone, the Reds have only 39 names on their forty-man roster. That spot will go to Chris Dickerson, who would be transferred from the 60-day disabled list. My prediction is that Dickerson will be activated, placed on the major league roster, and Drew Stubbs will be sent down to AAA Louisville.
