Let’s recap tonight’s titanic struggle….

Cincinnati 6
Houston 4
WP: Ondrusek (1-0)
LP: Byrdak (1-1)
S: Cordero (27)

–Joey Votto was the star tonight, with a 3-4 night, including a homer, a walk, and two runs scored.

–Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: Arthur Rhodes came in with the bases loaded and escaped the jam. The guy is unreal.

–Congratulations to Logan Ondrusek, who had yet another excellent outing to earn his first major league win. The kid has been superb since returning from Louisville.

–Orlando Cabrera had a couple of hits and scored a run.

–Jay Bruce had the key hit (I like writing that), a double off a lefty that knocked in the go-ahead run.

–Nice way to start the road trip, especially when you consider that the Cards lost today. Reds are now just a half-game back of first in the NL Central.

–Travis Wood was adequate: six inning, nine hits, four earned runs allowed while not walking a batter. Things kinda got away from him in the sixth, when Hunter Pence golfed out a classic Minute Maid Park home run.

–The Reds needed this victory, with Roy Oswalt on the mound for the ‘Stros tomorrow. Unless he is traded. (And if he is traded, pray that he doesn’t go to St. Louis.)
