Let’s recap tonight’s titanic struggle….

FINAL
Washington 2
Cincinnati 7
WP: Cueto (9-2)
LP: Martin (1-5)
BOX SCORE

POSITIVES
–Johnny Cueto: 6 innings, four hits, two runs. He’s getting predictable. Yes, his control was off at times — Cueto issued four walks — but his ERA is 3.39 on the year. A breakout season. (And don’t forget that he got a huge single as well, knocking in two runs.)

–Another perfect inning by Logan Ondrusek. More on him tomorrow.

–Jonny Gomes: 3-4, a homer, three runs scored. The big guy is getting hot again. Also hot: Drew Stubbs, who went 3-4 tonight, as well, with a double and two RBI.

–My man Miguel Cairo had a couple of base knocks, including a homer. He’s this year’s Luis Quinones.

NEGATIVES
–Nick Masset escaped without giving up a run, but he walked two batters in his one inning. I keep waiting for him to figure things out, but my patience is wearing thin (although, on the whole, he’s been somewhat better lately).

NOT-SO-RANDOM THOUGHTS
–After the miserable day I had today, I really needed a Reds win. Thanks, guys!

–The Reds have won 3 of 4 since the break, and you’d think the sky is falling to listen to some fans. Yes, the Reds are in second place. Don’t get so worked up. If you had told me before the season that the Reds would be 10 games over .500 and a half-game out of first on the morning of July 20, I’d have taken that in a heartbeat.

–Oh Jonny!!!
