Let’s recap today’s titanic struggle….
WP: Cook (4-5)
LP: Wood (0-1)
S: Street (6)
–Another strong outing from Travis Wood, though he wasn’t as sharp as he has been previously. Wood tossed six innings, giving up just one run on three hits, though he walked four. Once again, however, the Reds provided absolutely no offense in support of the young lefthander.
–The Reds got three more hits than they got last night, but eight fewer runs. Baseball is a funny game.
–The Reds win two out of three from the Rockies, who had won six in a row just prior to the All-Star break. That’s a good thing. Unfortunately, the loss dropped the Reds into second place, a half-game behind St. Louis (who swept LA). That’s not a good thing.
–For a team that is leading the league in hitting, it seems surprising that this is the 5th 1-0 loss for the Reds this year; it’s also the 11th time they have been shut out. Their last three losses have been by 1-0 scores.
–Scott Rolen was sick again and didn’t play.
–Travis Wood now has an ERA of 2.03. I don’t know how you send this guy back to AAA when some of these pitchers get back from the disabled list.
–Reds host the Nationals beginning tomorrow evening. I’d like to see the good guys win at least 3 out of 4.
