Let’s recap tonight’s titanic struggle….

Cincinnati 0
Philadelphia 1
WP: Hamels (7-7)
LP: Maloney (0-2)
S: Lidge (6)

–Nice start by Matt Maloney: 6 IP, 4 hits, one run allowed. It’s disgraceful that the Reds couldn’t get a single win for the rookie pitching troika — Maloney, Travis Wood, Mike Leake — after their outstanding work this weekend.

–Paul Janish went 2-4 and made a great play that saved two runs (and maybe more). Orlando Cabrera wouldn’t have reached that ball in a million years, but as Chris said in the game thread, you’ll never hear anyone in the media say it.

–Good bullpen work by Nick Masset and Arthur Rhodes.

–The Reds haven’t scored in 21 consecutive innings. Ugh.

–What else can we say? The Reds finish the first half in first place. After the break, the Reds only have 24 games remaining with teams who are over .500. In fact, 19 of the last 22 games are against sub-.500 teams. There is reason to hope.

–Everyone take a deep breath and enjoy the All-Star break.
