Let’s recap tonight’s titanic struggle….

FINAL
Cincinnati 3
New York (NL) 1
WP: Arroyo (9-4)
LP: Niese (6-3)
S: Cordero (24)
BOX SCORE

POSITIVES
–I enjoy watching Bronson Arroyo pitch more than anyone in baseball. Tonight, he went 8 innings, giving up just the one run on seven hits, striking out three and walking none. Superb outing when the Reds needed a win.

–Brandon Phillips was outstanding again tonight. He hit a homer and an RBI double, but BP’s defense was even better than his bat. Phillips made at least two Gold Glove plays, one of which he ran in front of the SS to make a play most shortstops would’ve been in a better position to make. It was awesome.

–Rookie Chris Heisey continues to make the most of his sporadic playing time. Tonight, Heisey went 2-4 with a homer, and he made a spectacular play in RF himself to save at least one run. On the season, he’s hitting .286/.378/.587, and has earned his own sombrero below! (Thanks to a Loyal Citizen of the Nation for the Heisey sombrero, by the way!)

NEGATIVES
–None.

NOT-SO-RANDOM THOUGHTS
–The Reds take a series, on the road, against a pretty good team. Good stuff. The Mets had won seven straight series at home before tonight. I love this team.

–Cincinnati is now 49-37, and they head to Philly now for a four game series against the Phillies and their idiot manager Charlie Manuel. Let’s hope Joey Votto shows him what an All-Star first baseman really looks like.

–Bronson Arroyo isn’t the best pitcher in baseball, not by a long shot…but I really like that guy.

Go Vote Votto.
