Let’s recap tonight’s titanic struggle….

Cleveland 4
Cincinnati 6
WP: Herrera (1-3)
LP: Masterson (2-7)
S: Cordero (20)

–Brandon Phillips went 2-3 with a walk from the leadoff spot. I love having him at the top of the order, and I love even more his rate stats for this season: .312/.371/.480.

–You gotta give kudos to Nick Masset, who has been very good lately (for the most part). He pitched a great eighth inning tonight, Masset’s fourth straight outing in which he hasn’t given up a run. Let’s hope he has turned the corner; his ERA is almost under 6!

–The rest of the bullpen — with one notable exception — pitched very well. Good work by Daniel Ray Herrera, Micah Owings, and Arthur Rhodes.

–Rhodes, by the way, is the greatest pitcher in the history of the universe. His ERA is 0.28. I cannot believe what I’m watching with this guy.

–Not a good start by Sam LeCure, who only went 3.1 innings, giving up three runs on six hits and four walks. It’s okay; we still like the young guy.

–CoCo. Sigh….

–Five wins in a row! Outstanding! The Reds stay in first place for at least one more day!

–The last time the Reds were in first place this late in the season: 1999. That was a good season.

–I’m so tired of the Francisco Cordero act.

–I am not tired of the Arthur Rhodes act. Rhodes tied the MLB record for consecutive scoreless appearances with his inning tonight. The guy is unreal.

–D**** W******* was at Great American Ballpark tonight. Hammering out the details of a contract, perhaps?

–Reds go for the sweep tomorrow afternoon!
