From John Fay:
The rumor on Twitter last night that the Reds were calling up right-hander Jordan Smith is apparently true.
It’s pretty shocking given his Double-A numbers: 1-3, 5.08 ERA, .318 opponent average. Haven’t heard what the other move is. I’ll post as soon as I know.
In his last six appearances for Carolina, Smith posted a 1.13 ERA, allowing only one earned run in his last eight innings.
They optioned to Class AAA Louisville RHP Enerio Del Rosario. Del Rosario went 1-1, 2.08 in nine relief appearances during two stints with the Reds.
If you’re going to reach…why not reach for someone like Maloney or Wood?
This makes no sense to me…Smith is in AA, he’s just been a reliever since the beginning of the season, and just now seems to be getting his legs under him. IMO, the sole reason he’s called up?
He’s on the 40 man roster.
But that being said…I thought it was nuts to start Mike Leake at the major league level also.
