John Fay is reporting in the Enquirer:

Second baseman Brandon Phillips (hamstring) said after today’s 7-3 loss to Kansas City that he will have an MRI on Monday. The Reds are off Monday.

“To tell you the truth, I don’t know what else to say,” Phillips said.

Phillips, riding a 15-game hitting streak, did not play today. He was penciled in this morning, then was scratched about two hours before game time.

“Certainly you can’t afford to lose Brandon for 10 days to two weeks,” manager Dusty Baker said after the game. “Hopefully having an off-day helps, too.”

As Chad and I spoke about on the last podcast, this team is not deep enough to stay competitive if it loses one of its starters for any extended period…especially someone playing as well as Phillips is right now. They were extremely lucky that Cairo had a few good games while Votto was out. I sure wouldn’t want to bank on that happening again.
